About the Concert<\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The concert \u201cFor My Homeland\u201d on July 11, 2026, at the Me\u017eaparks Grand Bandstand will be a special sing-along event, bringing together thousands of singers and spectators from Latvia and around the world. The concert will feature more than 200 choirs with over 6,000 singers, as well as beloved soloists and actors. <\/p>

At the heart of the program are Raimonds Pauls’ melodies, known and loved by many, which the audience will also be able to sing along to during the concert. The Me\u017eaparks stage will resonate with songs such as \u201cRozes gars\u201d, \u201cSv\u0113tvakars\u201d, \u201cP\u0113r\u013cu zvejnieks\u201d, \u201cManai dzimtenei\u201d, \u201cEs n\u0101ku no mazas tautas\u201d, \u201cSan\u0101ciet, sadziediet\u201d, and others. In total, more than 30 compositions will be performed, uniting listeners of different generations and creating a sense of belonging. <\/p>

The concert will feature Edgars O\u0161leja, Aleksandrs Anto\u0146enko, U\u0123is Roze, R\u016bta D\u016bduma, Andris \u0112rglis, Inga \u0160\u013cubovska, Annija Putni\u0146a, Juris Jope, M\u0101rti\u0146\u0161 \u0160maukstelis, Asn\u0101te and Aur\u0113lija Ranc\u0101nes, as well as actors Andris B\u0113rzi\u0146\u0161, Juris Hir\u0161s, and Be\u0101te Megija Baranovska. A special atmosphere will be created by the opportunity for the audience not only to listen but also to actively participate \u2013 by singing along with the choirs and soloists. <\/p>

The song “Manai dzimtenei” (For My Homeland) was created in 1972 by poet J\u0101nis Peters and composer Raimonds Pauls as a dedication to the centenary of the Latvian Song and Dance Festival. Initially, it was performed in concerts across Latvia by the soloists of the ensemble “Modo,” Nora Bumbiere and Viktors Lap\u010denoks. The song achieved great success, and at the invitation of conductor Imants Kokars, it was rearranged for choir and included in the repertoire of the centenary Song Festival. However, the mood of J\u0101nis Peters’ then-ambiguous poetic lines and the power of Raimonds Pauls’ melody seemed dangerously rebellious to the cultural leaders of the existing regime, leading to the song being excluded from the 1973 gada Dziesmu sv\u0113tkos atska\u0146ojamo dziesmu saraksta.
The song “Manai dzimtenei” was performed for the first time at the Song Festival in 1977 under the direction of chief conductor J\u0101nis D\u016bmi\u0146\u0161, and since then, the song has been sung at the conclusion of all Song Festival concerts, becoming an unstated symbol of national self-awareness. However, even after the restoration of independence, when Soviet censorship was no longer in effect, the content and popularity of the song “Manai dzimtenei” were still problematic for some. It was also not performed in 1993, 2003, and 2013. gada Dziesmu sv\u0113tkos, radot neizpratni un sar\u016bgtin\u0101jumu daudzu t\u016bksto\u0161u dzied\u0101t\u0101ju un klaus\u012bt\u0101ju sird\u012bs.
At this festival, \u201cFor My Homeland\u201d will be performed, and other songs by the Maestro will also be featured.<\/p>

Artistic Director J\u0101nis \u0136irsis states: \u201cIn the song festival \u2018For My Homeland,\u2019 we will honor the Maestro and his music, which has become a reflection of our identity over time. I am truly happy to be involved in the creation of this celebration, and I invite every lover of the Maestro’s music to join the mass choir to create a special festival together!\u201d <\/p>
